Morning Star School Guidance Program
“…where his or her uniqueness is celebrated!”
The Guidance Program is facilitated by Katy Warren M.A., NCC, School Counselor, and in consultation with Dr. Espy Ball. Morning Star School’s philosophy is to address the needs of the whole child; spiritually, socially, emotionally and physically. The Counselor addresses these needs with the students in the classroom, individually and through group sessions. The Counselor works collaboratively with students, parents and teachers to support the unique developmental needs of each child. Guidance policies of the school are developed and implemented by the School Counselor, consulting Psychologist and faculty members who are trained special educators.
The School Counselor is here to advocate, communicate, collaborate and care! She looks for the strengths in children to assist them in meeting their challenges. The philosophy of Morning Star’s Guidance Program is to advance the development of all students; embracing their strengths to overcome their challenges. While the needs of students may change and evolve throughout their school career at Morning Star School, the Guidance Program, interventions, and services, remain stable. The method of delivery, however, is adjusted from the Primary/Transition to Intermediate to Junior High Prep/Junior High to meet all students’ needs.
The School Counselor is a consultant in the school and in the community. She works with parents, teachers, administrators and education specialists regarding classroom problems or concerns about individual students. As a member of each student’s “success team”, she works collaboratively with school professionals to ensure all students have the opportunity to reach their potential. Mrs. Lujan assists caregivers with resources, community services, and/or referrals related to their child’s needs.
