My name is Karamia Grant Lujan; I am blessed to serve as Morning Star Catholic School Inc.’s School Counselor! My role at Morning Star School includes working collaboratively with the children, their caregivers and the teachers to provide the foundation for each student’s personal, spiritual, social and academic growth. I’d like to share a little bit about myself with you. I grew up in Tampa and attended Christ the King Catholic School and Academy of the Holy Names High School. My college years were spent at Loyola University in New Orleans majoring in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology. I hold a dual Master’s degree from University of South Florida in Mental Health Counseling and School Guidance Counseling (K-12). Further training led to a state license in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC).
My previous experience includes working for Success 4 Kids & Families (S4KF), partnering with FMHI & the Children’s Board to serve the families of children with mental health challenges. I have served at Alonso High School and Tampa Bay Technical High School as a School Counselor, grades 9 -12. My focus on academic guidance includes course selection, graduation requirements, career goals and post secondary education search. Personal guidance experience includes parent consultation, individual counseling and teacher collaboration.
My theoretical approach to School Counseling is strength-based, solution focused and cognitive behaviorally based. I believe each child is a gift from God with unique strengths, challenges, thoughts and behaviors. Our team approach at Morning Star encourages individualized solutions for each student’s needs. Working at Morning Star School is an answer to a prayer!
